During the last 5 days from 1st mar to 5th march, i have been working at expo for the International Furniture Fair 2007. The fair have been held in Singapore for the 24th time. I was allocated to be the usher. Labels: Work
During the first day of work, there were damn lots of visitors coming over from many different countries. The visitors were lining up for their registration. It was really a long queue. I remembered there was one visitor was telling me that is wasting his time jus to queue for the registration and time is money for him. I was kinda speechless as there is nothing much i could do either. I just got to say sorry to him tt he got to join the queue. Standing for bout 7 to 8 hrs ushering is really killing my legs! First day of ushering was still alright.
At the 2nd day or work, nothing much happen. The crowd was much lesser than the first day. Oh i was standing at the front counters directing the visitors which counter to go for registration as some visitors will not notice some counters are ready to serve them. However, about 2 hrs before the end of work, i began to 'eat snakes'...haha... i will go inside the registration counter where shuyi was sitting n sit down beside her, trying to help her whenever i could. after seated not long, my supervisor(i guess), called me in to the rest room to help do some stuffs.
At the 3rd day of work, which is saturday, according to the supervisor, it is said tt there will be many non-relevant visitors(public) wanting to come to the fair n we must not let them in. As the first 4 and a half days are meant for visitors coming to trade n buy furnitures in BIG bulk.Today my job of directing changed.LOL.Y? coz my rice bowl was snatched by the security. haha..jk... But is true that is was as if he was snatching with me to tell the visitors which counter to go for registration. Dot... SO in order not to 'fight' with him, lol, i went over to join 2 other ushers. Our job were to make sure that the visitors' nature of business are relevant to the furniture fair before we let them join the queue for registration. Doing ushering is not as COOL as some of u thought. Sometimes as u ask the visitors' nature of business n others, they will tot u are looking down on them and they will 'scold' u by asking u,'why do u want to know so much?' And they would jus walk straight to the counter without bothering u n giving u attitude. Is not tt we are busybody to ask them all these qns but is our job to ask them.Even though the forms that they fill in will give the details BUT is still quite generic.Sometimes i will be quite pissed off, that i feel like telling them y not let them try n be an usher for one day. :s Anyway, there were quite a no. of cute babies came to the fair! They were so cute!
4th day,Sunday, my supervisor said that there would be many visitors coming, most of which are those public who wanna go in n have a look. As City Harvest church is so near expo, so after their church service, there is bound to have pple from there asking if they can go in n explore. However, we do see alot of pple in n out of expo, but there isnt really much pple registering for the fair. Today again, some visitors bought babies to the fair but we were told tt we have to reject them as children under the age of 16 are not allowed into the fair. Today i encountered another attitude problem visitor. He was damn arrogant i tell u. Jus because he works in the government and he was so proud n giving u the snobbish look. Me n another usher couldnt handle him so we handed him over to the organisor. The organisor spoke to him but he was still giving the arrogant attitude n in the end the organisor didnt let him in to the fair. HaH. i was glad bout it. lol. Besides his job wasnt relavant to the furniture fair at ALL. He was working as a civil defence. -.-' Oh come on, whats that attitude man if he's working in there. I mean we are all humans n we both are singaporeans too, y is there a need to act so proud n arrogant? cant u talk to us in a nice way? And is not as if we owe u or something.
Last day of work! Half day for me. I only had to be a usher till 12pm n i was free. After 12pm, the furniture fair was opened to the public, no registration was needed for them. So after 12pm, i went to had my lunch n helped suzanne with a bit of the data entry till 1pm n my supervisor told me i could go home. haha. And my pay for that day was half day pay too. hah. But in the end i didnt go home, huihui n i waited for suzanne till 5pm. As suzanne still have to do data entry till 5pm before she could go home. After 5pm, the 3 of us went to CS to take neoprints! haha. We wanna take a shot of us wearing working uniform and we went home after tt. I was thinking if i have to work for another couple a days standing as an usher for u 7 to 8 hrs a day, who knows i could be crippled as it is really tiring n ur back will be aching..lol... Choy!
